Personal Security Tips

The Regional Security Office recommends the following personal security “best practices” for American Citizens in the Philippines:

• When driving, keep windows up and doors locked.

• Vary your times and routes to school or work (be unpredictable).

• If you go out, avoid wearing expensive jewelry and carrying or displaying large amounts of money.

• Keep small items in your front pocket.

• If you are going to crowded areas, it’s best to travel with at least another person.

• Practice good situational awareness.

• Maintain a low profile and avoid drawing attention to yourself.

• Ensure that your colleagues or family members are aware of your daily plans and are able to reach you.
