American Roadside Exhibit October 5-22,
2004
The exhibit is a collection of photographs by noted architectural historian
John Margolies. Captured throughout his 100,000-mile, 25-year quest for
the road trip, the exhibit is a collection of images during the inventive
era in American architecture. The collection preserves the automotive
architecture characterized by distinctive and individualistic roadside
buildings, often with huge signs but visual shorthand screaming to attract
customers driving by to stop. As a new set of interstate highway systems
replaced the old automotive highways, most of the old roadside architecture
has all but disappeared.
The traveling exhibit will be on display at SM City Davao from October
5 to 22, 2004.
The exhibit is made possible through generous support of Ford Group Philippines,
the Shangri-La Plaza Corporation, and SM City Davao.
