    US Drug Enforcement Administration meets Mayor Duterte
  Tim Teal, head of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in the Philippines, visited Davao City, and met with Mayor Duterte and PDEA Regional Director Wilkins Villanueva. He joined the Mayor and Director Villanueva during a visit to recently raided Shabu labs. They subsequently discussed US training assistance for anti-narcotics operations including upcoming training courses to be held in Davao. DEA regularly extends technical help to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, including the Davao lab investigation.

    US Ambassador Ricciardone visits Davao City
  Ambassador Ricciardone visited Davao City to participate in the closing ceremonies for the Baker Piston (anti-drug enforcement) training and the ICITAP training (crime scene investigation) conducted by the United States government. The Ambassador also met with the Davao Chamber of Commerce, many students from UP Mindanao and visited the Visayan Forum Halfway House for victims of trafficking.

  This three-day training program under the AIM Integrated Multi-Sectoral Capacity Building (IMCB) Project in the ARMM will help participants identify development trends that affect their region; recognize opportunities in the socio-political and economic environment; apply critical thinking and analytical skills; and draft plans to institute public sector reforms. Fifteen (15) top level officials from the ARMM regional government, local government executives and civil society leaders in the region are expected to attend.

  Ambassador Ricciardone launches Computer Literacy and Internet Connection (CLIC) Project in Davao School
  The CLIC Project is one of the education support efforts being carried out under the USAID's Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program. Under the CLIC Project, schools are provided with between five and ten computers, related peripherals, internet connections (including satellite link-ups if necessary), and related teacher training in the use of computers in the education process.

  U.S Embassy Manila will host three Election Results Centers in Manila, Cebu and Davao follow election returns as they are received live from the U.S. via satellite broadcast.   USD Department of Labor and Verite hold workshops with Local government officials and labor leaders.
    A second USDOL delegation will be visiting Davao from December 12-15. A study, administered by Verite is developing a methodology for USDOL to monitor compliance with international labor standards. The study is ongoing and focuses on the banana export market in the Philippines. Scenario planning workshops will be conducted by Verite in Davao with local government officials and labor leaders on December 13 and 14.
